Established in 2021, our Healing in Recovery Doula Training (HRDT) is a comprehensive year-long program tailored for individuals recovering from substance use or mental health disorders who aspire to support families with similar experiences throughout the perinatal period. This course combines both in-person and virtual modules, providing opportunities for skill development, practical experience, meaningful assignments, interaction with peers, and ongoing mentorship. HRDT emphasizes the importance of accommodating various learning styles and maintaining accessibility to information, while fostering compassionate care approaches and advancing trauma-informed practices for individuals undergoing significant life changes during recovery.

Throughout the training, participants will receive access to course curriculum, relevant resources, consistent guidance, and tools for integrating doula services into their current professional environment or transitioning to a new role. This program aims to enhance knowledge of childbirth, the postpartum period, and the role of doulas in supporting families on their journey into parenthood. Participants may pursue certification as a Birth and Postpartum Recovery Doula or choose to specialize in either Birth or Postpartum alone. Certification requirements align with quality and integrity standards that correspond with most state “licensure” programs currently being implemented across the United States.
